Help us keep pets in Dayton healthy and in their homes.

Gem City Vet is a nonprofit clinic created by Gem City Kitties to help Dayton, Ohio become a no-kill community. We opened on August 28th, 2021, and began offering low-cost wellness services, with the plans to add spay/neuter services as we grow.

Phase 1: Low-cost Wellness Services

We initially opened with limited hours and services to regroup post-COVID and offer services quickly. As we’ve grown, we’ve expanded our operation hours and services. We are open on Sunday and Monday and offer the following wellness services:

  • Exams

  • Vaccines

  • Preventatives for heartworm, fleas, and ticks

  • Testing for heartworm and FeLV/FIV

  • Microchips

  • Treatment and medication for common medical issues such as: ear infections, ear mites, and mange

  • Diagnostic services, such as urinalysis, fecals, and bloodwork

Phase 2: High Volume Spay/Neuter

We know spay/neuter services are the solution to ending overpopulation. Our goal is to add these services at our facility as soon as we can. Phase 2 expansion will include TNR services for community cats to further develop our TNR program.

We need your support

In 2021, we opened Gem City Vet, a low-cost, nonprofit veterinary clinic to help Dayton become a no-kill community.  Operating Gem City Vet has helped us expand essential programs to help cats and dogs locally by:

  • Expanding our Intake Program to take in more homeless cats directly from the public.

  • Supporting our Adoption and Foster programs by providing medical treatment for cats in our care and ordering medical supplies at affordable prices

  • Offering low-cost wellness care for pets in low-income families to keep pets from suffering or dying from preventable diseases

  • Educate pet owners about the importance of spaying and neutering and connecting them with resources in our area

  • Keep wanted pets healthy and in their homes, instead of shelters

A large base of individual donors has always sustained Gem City Kitties, and your support allows our programs to continue operating.

Until recently in the US, millions of pets were killed each year in shelters simply because they didn’t have homes.

Through the hard work of nonprofits, government shelters, and millions of advocates and volunteers demanding change, we have seen a massive reduction and brought the number of deaths down to about 415,000 annually

Nationally, many organizations are working together to reach "no-kill" by 2025, meaning that we aren’t killing any pets for lack of space and only euthanizing when it’s the best and most merciful choice for the animal. Ohio is unlikely to meet this deadline, and Montgomery County is behind the rest of the urban counties in Ohio.

Dayton can be a no-kill community by providing everyone, regardless of income, with easier access to veterinary care, spay-neuter surgeries, and client education.

Gem City Kitties feels a high-volume spay and neuter clinic located in West Dayton is a vital part of the solution, by providing both easier access and faster appointment availability. In 2021, we opened our veterinary clinic with wellness services and client education. As we grow, we are working toward adding high-volume spay/neuter.

We appreciate your support.

As a new grassroots nonprofit, we’ve been able to work quickly and build our programs exceptionally efficiently.

Since opening in January 2018, we have adopted over 1,300 cats to loving homes in partnership with Gem City Catfe. Our programs have also educated thousands of Daytonians on best practices for cat care and trained over 100 community members on how to help solve this problem locally.

Since opening Gem City Vet, we've provided wellness care to over 5,000 cats and dogs in the Dayton area.

We're excited to expand our programs and hope you’ll join us.

Donations of any size are appreciated.
